About this Blog

For those of you new to this whole blogging thing, apparently it’s big in Europe.  This blog has been set up on wordpress.com, a website that offers free blog hosting.  They define a blog as, “a type of web site, where articles (called “posts”) are listed in reverse-chronological order.  Blogs are usually published as a kind of diary or journal.  There are millions of blogs on the internet, written by millions of people about millions of topics.”  So basically, you write stuff and they put it on the web at an address you create.  Hence the URL: beardown2007.wordpress.com (and worry not, we’ve secured the rights to beardown2008 – beardown2010).

So, this blog is a Bears diary of sorts, overseen by our Editor.  He is a bit of a megalomaniac, and likes to think this is all his creation.  But it is actually the work of a staff of Super Fans, brandishing over 100 years of bear down experience between us.  One of the many perks of being a registered Super Fan is the right to provide unrestrained criticism.  And we take advantage of every opportunity provided us.  Our view is that it doesn’t have to be well written, or even well-thought out, but it must be completely and unreservedly biased.  So if you’re not eating and sleeping the Bears, then for your own safety, you should probably leave this blog and not come back.

As the saying goes, “there’s nothing more dangerous than a fanatic with a cause – except for a Super Fan with an audience.”  This blog provides us that audience.  It give us a medium to say what we want without corporate sponsorship or the FCC censoring us, all the while being as therapeutic for us as taking out Dave Wannstedt’s windshield (41-57 as Bears Coach ’93-’98, wikipedia.org/DaveWannstedt) with one of Sammy Sosa’s corked bats (cheating Cub, wikipedia.org/SammySosa).  And we are constantly looking for new ways to improve the bear down experience.

Using this blog allows us to do more for you.  It stores everything that’s been written all season, so you can get caught up whenever it’s convenient.  Or not.  That’s the beauty of the blog – you decide how much bearing down you want to do.  It separates new weekly posts into Categories, and general posts like this one into Pages.  So you can find what you want without having to sift through what you don’t.  And the blog is interactive; it counts visitor hits, and allows you to post comments of your own.

So if you didn’t know what a blog was, now you do.  And if you like the Chicago Bears, are an advocate of free speech, and want to be a part of something special, then you’ve found a place you can call home for the 2007 season.
